How awful just to smash all that lovely decoration and tiles to bits.
Talk about corporate vandalism. This is what happened to the Firestone Building.
They, Peel Holdings, could have handled the situation better.
It's about time there was an archaeological preservation society, where a building with work such as this, can have the decor removed before the building is levelled.

Yes Mags it makes me so mad does this. We are losing pubs left right and centre each week a pub in this country is closing it doors soon to be gone forever. Some are being made into homes etc but with the current climate that soon will stop. Pubs have so much social history and some of the buildings are just out of this world. The trouble is Mags these corporations know that they can pay they fines involved or that they know way of getting around it. Take the Firestone building that is just criminal once its gone thats it and what did they replace it with Mags something that will not look a tiny bit as good or last as long as the gracefull building. I cant tell you how upset it makes me I cry half the time. Its the same all over only a few people care not enough to make them stop what there doing.

I am not not against new buildings by any means, some can be truly lovely, and I have seen a row of new buildings being put up beside Victorian buildings and they don't look out of place.

Yes I agree some new building can be little gems in themselves take the new building by The Houses of Parliment that they built as overflow offices that looks fab and not out of place at all.
