No its a very good book Mags apart from the ending i.e. it stops at there deaths it does not go into detail about what happened afterwards. It gives you a good picture about what she was like as a person let me know what you think of it will get it off in the post soon.

Mel, finally got around to answering this thread.
I enjoyed the book, but have to say I have a different attitude towards Alexandra now.
In everything I have read about her, she has come across as overbearing and unsumpathetic.
There's no doubt she loved Nicholas and was besotted with him, it was just a shame he was such a weakwilled character.
I do, think this was the result of his mother, who married a Czar but was said to be jealous of her sister Alexander who married Edward who later became Edward VII.

Yes it changed my outlook of her I dont think either of them were cut out to be Tsar and Tsarina. What I never get over was that King George V who was so close to Nicholas and could of saved them did not I wondered how he lived with himself after that.

I knew that George could have saved his cousin, I remember reading about it when I did this period in history at school.
Apparently it was David LLoyd George and his government who put the kibosh on saving them. I wonder how they felt after they heard the news of the executions.
I also think this was part of the reason that Prince Phillip was so veherment about Anna Anderson.

Mags it was the other way around David Lloyd George had a sub all ready to rescue the family it was George V who said yes but then changed his mind apparently he was so worried that this country could have a revolution etc and bear in mind that Karl Marx always believed that it would be this country that would hold a revolution and not Russia. Queen Mary did very well out of the fallen royal family of Russia she picked up many a bargin from them that are now in our royal famlies possession I have a book somewhere listing all the tiars etc and where they come from its very interesting read.

I know Lloyd George decided against rescuing them because of the political unrest and the feeling that there would be a revolution in this country if they were seen to come to the aid of the Czar after stories of starvation and depreviation that his army had been through.

Years ago I read a very interesting novel by Ted Willis about organising an escape of the Romanovs, and it had an interesting theory that one of the missing girls was not Annastia but Olga.

It was Lord Mountbatten of Burma who started the rumour that it was Lloyd George who did not want to rescue the Romanov family when the oposite was true (at the time there was not much that could be done about this rumour and in fact it was believed for a long time but recent papers from Lloyd Georges time and from King George secretary confirm this. King George V at first wanted nothing more than to come to the rescue and it was he who first brought the subject up and approched the PM for a rescue plan where they could live in the UK. Then with worsening conditions and fears that revolution might come to the UK led King George to his massive re think as he felt that having the Romanov family in UK would not be the best thing. Despite the claims of Lord Mountbatten of Burma that Lloyd George was opposed to the rescue of the Romanovs, records of the Kings private secretary, Stamfordham, suggest that he did this against the advice of Lloyd George, who is often wrongly blamed for the loss of the Romanovs.

I watched a show not long ago now where they have at last found the remains of Alexi and Maria (and not Anastasia like was thought) DNA has confirmed it is them as these two pour souls were burnt and there is now plans that these few remains (sadly just a few bones) are to be interned with the rest of there famlies. Thats the one thing I could never get over how anyone could believe that anyone was allowed to get out of that room alive it was just not possible so all the stories about Anastasia imo were just stories.

Link to newspaper article about new book its very sad reading
