USS Eldridge a vanishing vessel
In the 1984 film The Philadelphia Experiment about a disappearing US Naval ship and its time travelling crew. In WW2 in America in late 1943 the US military were working on a secret weapon to win the war Operation Ghost or Project Rainbow was on a battleship by the name of USS Eldridge in a naval shipyard in Philadephia, Pennsylvania. The experiment focused on a theory of Albert Einstein's called the Unified Field Theory. It was hoped that by playing with this theory they could develop some kind of camouflage system for the military. It was said that the experiment went well at first with the ship disapearing with it appearing in another dockyard 200 miles away it then reappeard back in Philadelphia. The crew unfortunately started to feel side effects from headaches to severe mental problems and its also been said that some sailors would fade in and out with some just vanishing. There has been no proof as such that the USS Eldridge was involved in an experiment.

Re: USS Eldridge a vanishing vessel
Mel there have always been rumours about this ship and what has happened, even before the film was made. If you remember the ending, an elderly couple turn up at the end of the film. We are only learning things about WWII that they want us to know.
Look at the recent news in Britain about the man who went to negotiate with the Nazis in Rome, that we would let them have a free hand in Europe if they left the rest of the world to us.
