O-bon Festival in Japan
In Japan the O-bon festival is an important Buddhist day its a time when family ancestors are said to come back and visit there famlies and its a time when famlies will leave gifts of food etc for there dead ancestors for more information please see links below.

I remember when I lived in Hong Kong as a child, the Chinese had a similar festival which they called Ancestor day. They would have a sort of picnic at the grave.
