Not all the spirits are in bottles - Seattle Washington
People occupying a building once used as a funeral home have reported seeing and hearing strange things.

Fascinating. Though some of those stories are stretching the paranormal aspect a bit. Wonky ceilings falling in? A wall display falling off the wall? These things just happen.
But I wish them good luck with that restaurant idea, even if I think its a little bad taste to harp on about the previous use of the venue. Not sure the balcony area would have a good 'party' atmosphere for special groups considering the sadness that would have taken place there.

I suppose that it depends on your view point regarding the venue, but I don't know if it is because I did know in the past quite a few landlords and landlady's, but I have been told several stories about pubs.
One called The George, it's in the Strand, you sometimes see it in the background of reports from the Law Courts, it was a pub that I used to drink in when I first started training as a telegraphist.
Even back in the early 70's there were stories about the Cavalier ghost in the cellar. Now years later my friend worked there and her boyfriend was the assistant manager. I went to help set up in the upstairs bar for a special event, and there was definitely something there.
Another pub they were involved with had a 'presence' too, so I don't know if it is something to do with the public being in there that attracts spirits to linger, the George is an old pub but not old enough to house a Cavalier.
As for funeral homes, the saddest people feel is temporary, I have to admit the one where both my dad and brother were, was in fact quite a peaceful place.

Re: Not all the spirits are in bottles - Seattle Washington
That was an interesting read I could not get over what they said about sitting the bodies in a chair for viewings etc etc I have never heard of that before but maybe back then they used to?
As for that Seattle doctor who treated patients by starving illness out of them and giving them three enemas a day was shocking and so sad it just goes to show how much we now know and how lucky we are to live in these times.
As for a change of use of the funeral home to a bar or nightclub I know if I knew of its former life there is no way you would get me in there (but I do have a morbid fear of funeral homes and morgues etc). Its like old churches I know if other uses are not found for them then they can be lost forever etc but I draw the line at pubs and nightclubs being in former churches or chapel's etc I just dont agree with it.
What you say Mags about pubs is true. A pub in the villiage where my family goes back generations (and our burried in the churchyard etc) The Angel Inn at Long Ashton not only was it a pub but also the local mortuary and law court this is all going back in time etc but most old pubs were used for all sorts of things including Coroners Courts, Courts, Mortuary, Jails so its not suprising that most are haunted but I think why so many pubs are haunted because they were nice places to go when you were alive so makes sense you want to go somewhere you liked when dead.
I had a look online and found this about the 1921 First Ave Funeral Home its a good read

The point about the doctor isn't as outlandish as you think, don't forget they used to purge and bleed people too in an effort to cure them of illnesses.
And the reason we have Kellogg's Cornflakes as he used them at his sanatorium to help keep the patients 'regular'

Yes your right Mags doctors used to kill more patients back then with there ministrations etc and in some cases you were better off poor as you could not afford the doctor and would have a far better outcome. I did not know that about Kellogg's Cornflakes thats interesting.

Sounds a very comprehensive and well thought out building.
Thinking about it, if it was such a well thought out place the ghosts may be those who worked there rather than were laid out there. Or from whatever businesses were in there after the mortuary moved.

Thats what I think as well Mags that it might be those who worked there during the lifetime of the building.
