Re: The Crying Boy Curse
I saw a programme about year ago on this phenomena and it said that the story of the boy dying in a car crash fire. It is interesting how a story can come about due to a few unrelated incidents. I am sure by the law of averages, that people who have had fires, would have similar objects in their houses. You have to remember that these stories started in the 60's, when there was not so much choice in consumer goods.
Then like, now, there were trends in designing and furnishing your home, the crying boy/exotic lady paintings were everyway.
I would like to see what sort of story would be made up if the objects in all the homes that had experienced fires had been a sovenir donkey from Spain.

Re: The Crying Boy Curse
My god!
Mel you best not go to my mum's as she has a copy of the crying boy hanging in the hall way right opposite the front door, she's had it years and refuses to let anyone get rid of it, I don't know if it's maternal instinct, but she loves that picture and has a fit if anyone but her touches it. I remember one day was dad was decorating the hall, he went to move the picture so he could paint the wall it hangs on and mum went absolutely mental, she screamed at him not to touch it, then she lovingly removed it from the wall and placed it by her chair. I've always hated that picture but I could never understand why, when my parents and siblings went away on holiday for a fortnight, I covered that picture with a sheet and it stayed that way till the day they came back. Even now when I go home I cannot look at that picture and walk straight past it.
This is the version my mum has, there are several different ones, it may look sweet and innocent but it has always given me the creeps.

Re: The Crying Boy Curse
Cool I can't wait for them
There is one version of the picture where the boy looks so scary that I can't look at it. I'll have to find a clearer copy of it as the ones on the fan club link I posted arn't all that clear.

Re: The Crying Boy Curse
I can remember that after all the fire stories were in the papers there were loads of the pictures at jumble sales
I didn't buy one even for 5p as I don't like sad pictures and don't tempt providence anyway

Re: The Crying Boy Curse
When we lived in Uganda, an artist came around the door selling paintings done in oils of African villages. They are in the sort of school of Lowry (stick type) but the colours are lovely.
My dad bought some and gave me one of them years ago, no one else wanted any of them, when Kirsten was in hospital in Guildford (it was originally run by nuns but it is now a private hospital) I saw a painting by the same person and when I pointed out to the receptionist she said yes, 'he's quite famous now apparently!'
Don't know how true that is.
