North Shore Boston
I found this little gem, because I was sure that Boston being so historical would have at least one ghost story attacted to it.
This was reported in the New York Times May 9 1888,
it is regarding a letter to a Providence Rhode Island publication.
There is no name given for the author of the letter.
The family called Ess had a summer house on the North Shore of Boston.
According to the letter they were respected and well liked.
Mrs Ess when on a trip to Hartford Connecticut where she fell ill, unfortunately she did not recover and died.
The family had received a letter from those she was staying saying that she was making a recovery and was out of danger.
The morning the letter arrived, the family doctor paid a visit.
He had heard of Mrs Ess illness whilst on holiday and was enquiring after her health.
He was given the information regarding her health that had been garnered from the letter.
As he left the house, the doctor saw Mrs Ess crossing the lawn and entering the door at the side of the house.
Perplexed, he decided to return to the house, (perhaps to see how Mrs Ess was?) only to be told that no-one had heard anyone come in through the side door.
On examination, the side door was locked from the inside.
Shortly afterwards a telegram arrived telling the family and the doctor that Mrs Ess had passed away in Hartford Connecticut.
She had died approximately about the time the doctor had seen her returning home.

Re: North Shore Boston
Spooky that the doctor thought she was alive saw her then found out she had died. Thats like the story from Castle Lesile where the young lord was fighting in Western France and the sevants saw him walking in the gardens and were all in a fluster to get the house ready as he come back unexpected but after a few days the family made enquiries because he did not come home only to be told he had died on the day he was seen walking around the grounds.
